01

Start with the specified layer.

Ask what the material needs to do in your project before comparing its delivered price. A named sub-base specification, a bulk fill requirement and a decorative surface are different needs. MOT Type 1 and recycled 6F2 should not be treated as interchangeable labels for crushed material. Tell the team which layer you are building and share the specification from your designer or installer where you have one.

02

Where Type 1 fits the conversation.

Type 1 is commonly discussed for a specified, compactable sub-base beneath driveways, paths and paved areas. The exact product and supporting specification should match the project requirements. A material name does not set the layer depth, drainage design or installation method for every site. If your paving manufacturer or designer specifies Type 1, ask the supplier to confirm the product against that requirement rather than substituting another material simply because it looks similar.

03

Where recycled 6F2 fits the conversation.

Recycled 6F2 is discussed for suitable bulk fill and construction applications where that material is specified or accepted by the project design. Ask about the source, grading and suitability of the available product for your intended use. A recycled material can be a sensible choice for an appropriate layer, but recycled content alone does not establish technical equivalence with another aggregate. The finished construction depends on the complete design and installation, not one product name.

04

Order from a clear specification.

Record the material, planned area, specified depth and whether the quantity refers to a compacted finished layer or loose delivered material. Use the aggregate calculator for a starting quantity and confirm the density and allowance with the team. Share any required product documentation before ordering. If the specification is uncertain, resolve it with your installer or designer first; the collection-and-delivery enquiry can then describe the right material and sequence.
