01

Where it fits

Sharp sand has a coarser texture than soft building sand. Its suitability depends on the intended mix or bedding specification. It is not interchangeable with every mortar sand, and a decorative or play application may need a different product.

02

What to confirm

Tell us whether the sand is for paving bedding, screed or another specified use. Confirm grading and suitability before ordering. The calculator uses an illustrative loose bulk density; wet sand can weigh differently.

03

Plan your quantity

For a paving project, discuss the sub-base and edge restraint as well as the sand. Calculate each layer independently, using the correct planned depth.

04

Delivery details that help

Include your site postcode, the material name, approximate tonnage and the intended drop position. Flag narrow gates, parked vehicles, overhead obstructions and weak surfaces. The team confirms the material, safe access and delivery charge before the order is booked.

05

Match the sand to its intended job.

Describe whether the sand is part of a bedding arrangement or another construction use and share the relevant specification. Do not assume sharp sand and other sands are interchangeable. Different paving systems use different build-ups, so confirm the required material and installation method with your installer before setting an order quantity.

06

Plan receiving and handling.

Keep separate piles of different products identifiable and choose a receiving position that remains accessible during the work. Tell the team about narrow approaches, overhead restrictions and any limits on tipping or storage space. Confirm the available delivery format and supplied quantity rather than inferring either from a product photograph.
